Studios, not casinos

Nobody at the table works for the casino

The person dealing your blackjack hand is employed by a studio company, not by the casino you deposited with. Three of the ten operators here publish a list of the studios they carry rather than a count of them, and the same live studio appears on all three.

The casino sells you access. The table itself — the wheel, the shoe, the person dealing, the room they stand in — belongs to a separate company that licenses the feed to dozens of operators at once. Once you know that, a lot of live-dealer marketing stops making sense, because most of it describes something the operator did not build and cannot change.

The studio is the product; the casino is the shop

A live-dealer game is a video stream from a production floor, with a betting interface laid over it. The studio company hires and trains the dealers, buys the tables, runs the cameras and holds the licence that covers the game itself. The operator integrates the feed and takes the bets.

That means the identical table can be running in the lobbies of many casinos at once, with players from all of them seated at it. Some operators pay for a branded table with their logo on the felt; the dealer standing at it is still the studio's employee, working the studio's shift pattern, under the studio's rules.

So the sentence "this casino has great live blackjack" is almost always a sentence about a supplier that its competitors also use.

Live tables are the part of a crypto casino that is not provably fair — the shuffle happens in a studio, under the studio’s own licence, so the operator that streams it matters more here than anywhere else in the lobby.

Which studios actually turn up

Three of the ten operators on this site publish the studios they carry as a list of names rather than as a number. All three of those lists include Evolution, which is the largest live-dealer supplier in the market and the reason live tables look broadly the same wherever you meet them. A named list and a bare count are recorded as different things in the studios across crypto casinos in New Zealand.

Beyond that single overlap the lists diverge more than you would expect. Ezugi appears on two of the three. Winfinity appears on two. One of the three carries BetGames and Absolute Live alongside the rest; another carries Pragmatic Play Live and a supplier trading as Live Vegas. So the deep end of the catalogue is where operators differ, and the shallow end — the standard blackjack and roulette a casual player will actually open — is close to identical.

The other seven publish a studio count without a list. A count cannot be checked by a reader, and where a published list has been counted the total has not always matched the number in a comparison table, which is why this page works from the lists rather than from the counts. Where an operator publishes neither, there is nothing to compare at all.

Sorted by licence status and by what each operator’s terms say about verification. The order is not for sale — see the methodology page. Every Play button opens the same place: the casino this site is paid to feature, whichever row the button sits in.

What the operator still controls, and it is not the game

Four things stay on the casino's side of the line, and all four are worth more attention than the studio brand.

Table limits. The minimum and maximum stake on a given table are set in the integration, not in the game rules, and they differ between operators carrying the same feed. This is the one place where two lobbies running the same table genuinely differ for the player.

The currency you see. A balance displayed in NZD or USD is a front-end setting; the account is usually denominated in a coin. What that costs on the way in and out is on the NZD page.

What a live bet counts for. Wagering requirements usually weight live-dealer play far below slots, and not one of the ten operators here publishes a game-contribution table that this site has read. So if you are clearing a bonus at a live table, the rate at which you are clearing it is unknown at every row on this page.

Whether the money leaves. Identity checks and withdrawal ceilings belong entirely to the operator. The studio has no view of them.

The New Zealand problem is the clock

Live studios run on European hours, and New Zealand sits ten to twelve hours ahead of them depending on the season. A comfortable evening session in Auckland lands in the small hours of a European morning.

The practical consequences are mundane and real. Fewer tables are open. The ones that are open are more likely to be automated or auto-roulette rather than staffed. Dedicated tables with higher production values tend to run in European daytime, and the minimums on the tables that remain open overnight can be higher, because the studio consolidates thin traffic onto fewer tables.

Slots are unaffected by any of this: they are server-side and identical at any hour, as the pokies page sets out. Live tables are the one category where the time you play changes what is available to play.

Latency is the other half of it. A stream crossing the world takes longer to arrive than one crossing a continent, and betting windows on live tables are short and fixed. That is not a fairness problem — the round does not close early for you — but it does mean less time to think than the interface implies.

The one thing a live table cannot offer

A crash or dice round can be recalculated afterwards from a published seed. A live table cannot. The proof that a physical shoe was shuffled honestly is a camera and an auditor, not a hash you can check yourself, and there is no version of it that a player at home can verify independently.

That is not an accusation; it is a difference in the class of evidence available. If verifiability is the reason you are at a crypto casino rather than a conventional one, the provably fair page explains what can and cannot be checked, and live tables sit firmly on the cannot side alongside every slot in the lobby.

Before you sit down

Check the operator, not the felt. The studio is close to a constant across this table; the licence entry, the withdrawal ceiling and the identity clause are not. The register check is on checking a crypto casino, the withdrawal rules are on the withdrawal page, and what happens when a balance does not move is on when a casino is not paying out.

And the house edge at a live table is the same edge as everywhere else, dealt more slowly and more sociably. If the pace stops being a choice, the support services are free and confidential.
