What it fixes
A dollar-pegged token is worth a dollar. Deposit 300 USDT and you have 300 USDT tomorrow, whatever Bitcoin did overnight. Three things follow:
- No currency exposure during a session. The NZD page sets out what that exposure costs when you do carry it. In a stablecoin it disappears.
- Bet sizes mean something. A 2 USDT spin is about NZ$3.30 and it feels like NZ$3.30. A 0.00003 BTC spin feels like nothing, which is precisely the problem.
- The bonus arithmetic becomes readable. Wagering requirements expressed in dollars are checkable; expressed in a fraction of a coin they are not.
The network is the decision
USDT is not one thing. The same token is issued on several blockchains, and the network you pick decides the cost:
| Network | Cost to send | Speed | Worth using from NZ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tron (TRC-20) | under NZ$2 | seconds | Yes — the default for most players |
| Solana (SPL) | a few cents | seconds | Yes, where the casino supports it |
| BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20) | cents | seconds | Yes, widely supported |
| Ethereum (ERC-20) | NZ$5–NZ$40 | minutes | Only for large amounts |
| Polygon | cents | seconds | Fine, less widely supported |
The rule that matters: the network you send on must match the network the deposit address belongs to. Tron USDT sent to an Ethereum address is gone — not delayed, gone, with no recovery path at any support desk. This is the one irreversible mistake in crypto gambling and it accounts for more lost money than any bonus term.
Both the exchange and the casino make you choose a network explicitly. Choose the same one on both screens, copy the address rather than typing it, and send a small test transfer first if the amount is significant.
Buying USDT in New Zealand
Easy Crypto, Binance and Kraken all sell USDT for NZD. All three ask which network you want to withdraw on; pick Tron unless the casino's cashier says otherwise.
Buying USDT is a purchase of a dollar-pegged asset rather than a speculation, which also simplifies the tax picture — there is essentially no gain to have made between buying it and spending it. The legality and tax page covers where the line sits.
What stablecoin risk actually is
Being straight about the downside, because "stable" oversells it.
USDT is issued by Tether, a private company, and it is worth a dollar because Tether says it will redeem it for a dollar and holds reserves it publishes attestations for. That is a company's promise, not a government's. The peg has wobbled by a cent or two under stress and returned each time; a permanent break has not happened and is not a reason to reorganise your life around, but it is a different risk from holding New Zealand dollars in a New Zealand bank.
USDC, issued by Circle, is the usual alternative and is generally regarded as the more conservatively reserved of the two. Fewer casinos support it. If your operator takes both, USDC is the marginally safer choice; if it takes only USDT, the exposure over the days a bankroll sits there is small.
The larger point: money sitting in a casino account is exposed to the casino, not just to the token. Withdraw after sessions rather than keeping a standing balance — it removes both risks at once and keeps individual withdrawals under the published verification thresholds.
Which operators take it
Every operator in the table below accepts USDT. The differences are which networks the cashier offers and whether the balance is held in USDT or converted to a house unit on deposit — check the cashier screen before sending, because a conversion at deposit reintroduces a spread you were trying to avoid.
